TRUB Open XVII

WHAT:

TRUB OPEN XVII AHA/BJCP Registered; Sponsored by the TR iangle U nabashed Home B rewers (“Club Dubbed TRUB”)

The 2008 TRUB Open will be a 2008 qualifying event for points toward the CBOY (Carolina Brewer of the Year) and CMOY (Carolina Meadmaker of the Year) competitions. 

Categories: Entries will be accepted in all categories listed for the (2004) BJCP Style

Guidelines. Only one entry per subcategory will be accepted. Cider and meads will not be eligible for Best of Show.

Bottles: Two bottles per entry required (one per entry for meads/ciders). Each bottle must be plain glass, brown or green, 10 to 16 ounces in volume, and crown capped. Bottles and caps must be free of anything which is sufficiently unique that it could identify a brewer to a judge. This may include raised lettering, labels, unique bottle shapes or the like. No swing-top bottles. Bottle caps should have any distinguishing marks completely blacked out. (Use of brown, long-neck, 12 oz. bottles is encouraged but not required.) Bottles not meeting these guidelines will be disqualified, and ineligible for award. (They may be judged at the discretion of the competition organizers.) NOTE: Reusable containers, including "Carbonator" type devices CANNOT be returned.  Labels must be attached to bottles with a rubber band.

Entries received by George after Wed. 17 October 2008 will not be entered or (burp) returned.

•  Hand Carried:

Pre-registered entries will be accepted at the TRUB Meeting on Wed evening, 10 October 2007 at Satisfactions Restaurant (Brightleaf Square, Durham 7 PM). If you are not sure what category to enter your beer in, bring a few extra bottles to the meeting and TRUB members will (be more than happy to) provide suggestions after sampling your brew.

Pre-registered entries may also be dropped off at American Brewmaster until 4:00 PM 21 October.

Finally, entries can be pre-registered/pre-paid until Wed. 24 October and hand-delivered to the competion no later than 8:30 AM the morning of the competition.  NOTE: This year, for logistical reasons, we will only accept a maximum of FOUR pre-registered entries per person DAY of COMPETITION.  We will not accept your entries the day of the competition unless they have been pre-registered.

Entry Fee: $5 per entry (flat fee). No limit on the number of entries. Please enclose a single check for the total fees made payable to “TRUB”.

Judging:

•  Judging for TRUB XVII will be in accordance with the 2004 BJCP Style guidelines.

•  Apprentice judges are welcome and will be paired with experienced judges.

•  Judges and stewards will be our guests for lunch

•  Those wishing to judge or steward may register online by 24 October.

•  Judge and steward experience points will be reported to the BJCP

•  Judges and stewards are expected to arrive not later than 9:00 AM (note, coffee and bagels will be provided). Doors will be open by 8 AM.

•  Some categories may be condensed with categories of similar style for determining First, Second, and Third place winners, at the Organizer's discretion.

•  Conversely, categories in which a large number of entries are received in each of several sub-categories may be expanded to determine ribbon winners and Best of Show entries.

•  Score sheets for brewers not present at the competition will be mailed out within 5 days of the competition

Prizes: 1st, 2nd & 3rd place beers in each category will receive a ribbon. 1st, 2nd & 3rd place Best of Show beers will receive a ribbon. 1st, 2nd, 3rd ribbons awarded for meads/ciders.

Raffle: A raffle ($1/ticket, $5 for 6 tickets, $10 for 14 tickets) will be conducted from opening of the doors until the end of lunch. Winners will be announced during the tallying of final scores prior to the Best of Show judging. Visit our sponsors page!
